Below Average...waay below average.
The average height of an American female is 5'5" give or take, and how tall am I? Not even 5' yet. I never noticed when I stopped growing, but I do know for sure, that I have always had this perspective and talking to people's chest was considered "eye-contact". I never noticed how petite I was until my Baccalaureate mass. For those who have not survived a life-time's worth of Catholic School, Baccalaureate mass is a mass before the graduating class' graduation and it even takes precedence over graduation. For the mass, I played a very important role, the reading of the offertory. For any average person, reading AND being seen is a given, however for me it was a read and do not be seen type if situation. Yes, the podium that I was reading at was even taller than me, great another inanimate object added to the list that I shouldn't stand behind. During the mass, I had to pull out a wooden stool, do my thing and return it to its rightful place, a series of actions that drew many laughter. I found the concept very amusing myself and afterwords it was the highlight of the mass! I do not mind being the height that I am, but it comes with many bad aspects, like getting elbowed in the head, looked over (literally), and needing a stool for everything ! As I start college, I will embrace the fact that talking to people's chest will no longer be "eye-contact" but rather, speaking to their tummies! ;)
